I am not a fan.

A phrase I stole from @KyleIdleman’s book, “not a fan”, pretty much sums it up. Jesus has called us to be followers, not fans, and that is what I do—but it hasn’t always been that way for me, and I’m certainly not perfect at it.

I grew up in a Christian home, but secretly (and eventually publically) called the Christian faith cultish and walked away from all of religion very early on in life. I joined the military in ’99 and visited Iraq in ’03 with the 4th ID stationed in Tikrit. This was the first time I was faced with the idea of mortality, but I didn’t really know what to do with it. It was during conflict that I said the sinners prayer, and immediately upon return to the State’s I went right back to my sin-filled life. During a particularly difficult time, a random guy, in a random hallway, at a random hotel, walked right in to my room and said, in essence, “a man is only as good as the vows he keeps”—then walked away.

Those words resonated with me and rerouted my entire trajectory; I’m living my vow to God. I’m married (10 years!) with 4 children. I have a B.A. in Biblical & Theological Studies from Regent University. I was introduced to apologetics about five years ago and really became enthralled with the idea that faith is not blind. I am humbled that this journey has led me to A Clear Lens, and am amazed at the spiritual maturity and wisdom and grace that this group lives out, every day.
